Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本課題では、COの介在しないメタノール合成反応の構築を目指し、あらためて触媒組成を見直した。昨年までの検討では、Cu/ZrO2触媒がCO2からのメタノール合成反応に適する触媒であることを明らかにしてきた。商用Cu/ZnO/Al2O3触媒に対するCu/ZrO2触媒の主な利点は、メタノール選択率が高いことにある。また、「分光学・計算化学・反応工学」の3つの観点からCu/ZrO2触媒の反応機構を検討しており、Cu-ZrO2界面で本反応が進行することを明らかとした。速度論的解析により、本反応が「CO2→メタノール→CO」という逐次反応になると示唆される。中間生成物であるメタノールの収率を上げるためには、後段の反応(メタノール分解反応)を抑制することが望まれる。本年度の研究により、a-ZrO2を担体に用いることで、CO2からのメタノール合成反応に特異な活性点が創出されたことを示唆している。
Cu/ZrO2触媒上で進行するCO2からのメタノール合成反応を以下のように考えた。(i) CO2はCu-ZrO2界面でメタノールに転換される。(ii)メタノールがZrO2に強く吸着する場合、メタノールはCOへ分解される。(iii) メタノールがZrO2に弱く吸着する場合、メタノールは分解される前に脱離する。(iv) 金属Cu表面でCO2がCOへ転換される。
Cu/a-ZrO2触媒が特異な活性を示す要因の一つに、触媒上のCu種が微粒子であったことが考えられる。このことが、Cu-ZrO2界面を多く形成することにつながるためである。更に、a-ZrO2担体を用いることで、メタノールが担体に弱く吸着することも原因と考えられる。
