Outline of Annual Research Achievements

この一年間、申請者は前年度の研究で得た成果をさらに推し進めた。特に目下の最重要課題である矮小楕円体銀河中の暗黒物質量推定については、素粒子グループ、天文グループとの積極的な議論により、大きな進展を見せた。
具体的には、今年度、申請者は近年発見された超低光度矮小楕円体銀河を対象に研究を行った。そこでは、観測データに混入する前景星の影響が極めて大きいことを発見した。従来の手法では、各星について『前景星である確率』が計算され、ある確率以上のものは前景星とみなされ、データから除かれていた。申請者はこの手法における確率の計算時にバイアスがあることを見出し、その影響の大きさを定量的に解析した。また同時に、このバイアスを解消する新たな手法を編み出し、その有効性を疑似データにより確かめた。この新手法では、バイアスの解消のみならず、それまで取り入れられていなかった不定性の因子も取り入れることに成功した。
今後の暗黒物質探索として、宇宙線を使った対消滅・崩壊反応の検出が極めて重要な役割を果たす。とりわけ、矮小楕円体銀河においては、極めて強い信号が地球に届くとされている。やってくる宇宙線から、正しく暗黒物質の情報を引き出すためには、矮小楕円体銀河内の暗黒物質量の厳密な推定が必要不可欠である。申請者の研究成果は、次世代の推定手法の標準となりうる、極めて重要なものである。
