Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this research is to explore a concrete education strategy to foster global citizenship mind for university students. It aims to include the traditional scientific literacy of “knowledge/skills, concepts, ethical values, learning process, communication”, and the recent trend of global citizenship, which requires “knowledge/understanding, skills, values/attitudes”. In order to develop a concrete educational material, I focused on “coexistence of wildlife and humans” as an educational theme that encompasses these issues and developed a communication tool of a kamishibai (a paper theatre) with a motif of zoo animals. As a result, this research created an effective global citizenship education design that promoted both sides of intellectual and emotional human minds for the university students.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は,理科や自然科学の教育研究が構築してきた科学リテラシー育成の手法を,グローバルシティズンシップに転換するという,新規的な実践研究である。さらに,具体的な教材開発とその効果を丹念に検証して,国内学会だけでなく国際学会においても広く発信した点で,国際的な波及効果と実証性を提示できた。自然科学領域における高等教育の基準が,科学・技術の発展に寄与することを求めてきたこれまでのあり方に,現代国際社会の求めるシティズンシップ基準を取り入れようとした点は,これからの高等教育における科学人材育成論に一石を投じるものである。本研究の成果は,大学生を学習者から活動力ある市民へ成長させるモデルとなる。
