Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The study examines the relationship between ethnicity and cross-cultural understanding in Yangon, Myanmar. In the first and second year of the study, field trips were undertaken to collect data through in-depth interviews with various communities, heads of religious institutions, and by attending various festivals and events such funerals, marriages and private gatherings. Individuals were asked questions regarding friendship patterns, kinship patterns, residential patterns, and occupational patterns to analyze and understand how communities within Myanmar live in peace and harmony despite the long isolation people have experienced as a result of all the sanctions. Research findings were presented in two international conferences. I had to discontinue my research project since I left my current position and lost my grant eligibility in FY2017.
