The number of annotations in Utsunomiya Tonan is by far the largest group of early modern Chinese poetry commentators.
"KINSYUDAN", which Tonan made relentless revisions to the annotations, was an important poem collection for himself. Not only can the poem citation of "KINSYUDAN" be intensely seen in his poetry, but its metamorphosis also conforms to his own commentary content.

明清詩論の影響下にあるということで、近世の詩論は、宋代詩論に依拠した五山抄物と一線を画することができる。藤原惺窩は中国明代の文論を編集して『文章達徳要領』を成し、石川丈山は、明代以降の詩文論書に依拠ながら『詩法正義』を成した。丈山は近世において詩人として本格的に活動したと言われる。その丈山の『詩法正義』を受け継いだ詩論書が、貝原益軒『初学詩法』と、遯庵の『文家小筌』（『作文楷梯』）で、分けても、先ず抄物を製作して、その注釈の手法を標注へと移行させた遯庵は、明代標注を近世的な標注に仕立てた張本人でもあった。加えて、遯庵はその標注の意義を、自らの標注を用いて自らの詩で実践した。
