Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this second year of the research project, the focus has been on the intensive accumulation of notes and the drafting of articles, rather than on time-consuming trips to international conferences, and this has allowed a clearly-defined plan for a monograph to take shape. Work has been done on the preparation of two articles for submission to Irish studies journals, one a general introduction on engagements with the themes of famine and hunger by Irish poets in the twentieth century (an article which would be the introductory chapter for the monograph), and a second article on the role of hunger in Seamus Heaney’s Station Island. Upon the reception of positive feedback from these articles, a monograph proposal will be submitted, primarily to publishers in the UK and Ireland.
