With continued efforts to gather temeperance-related materials, considerable number of texts have been gathered, not just by such major temperance writers as T.S. Arthur and Mary Chellis, but also by minor but important writers like Alice Carey and Nellie Graham.
Based upon the materials acquired, a theme of "manliness" in the narratives by male writers has been studied , with emphasis on the different approach to the theme by female writers.
