Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study clarifies the history of the formation of the third person realism novel in 19th century French literature by placing theatrical structure in the novel. The case to be told is unfolded on the “stage”, and by adopting a structure in which the “narrator” and the “listener” appreciate it as an audience, making it possible for the third person “narrator” to have the omniscience and omnipresence. The "narrator (= author)" and "listener (= reader)" have the attributes of Parisians of the same period. It is not the objective description of society that is aimed at in the realism novel, but the "real" society from their point of view. "Realism" was made possible by being mediated by the subjectivity of contemporary observers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
