Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examines the discussion on and practice of political representation during the period from the Ancien Regime to the French Revolution, which is often considered the birth and development of modern democracy, by questioning its relationship with the“old order”of the Ancien Regime. One of the major features of this study is bridging the gap between the Ancien Regime period and the French Revolution era, and questioning the relationship between its formation and the reorganization of the power order during this period. Moreover, since the region played an important role at the beginning of the French Revolution, this study focuses on the power order in the Languedoc society and the response of this province to the administrative and fiscal reform at the end of the Ancien Regime.
