It is popular to study Kofun period with special regard to the biggest tomb,
that is the local chief's tomb in each region. To avoid the prejudice of this approach, I researched the middle-class tombs in comparison with the biggest ones. This study has been done in the Wakasa district, that is western Fukui prefecture, during the 5th century AD. Consequently, it could not be confirmed that the Yamato dynasty had ruled local politic government by weakening the chef's power and leveraging the local officials. On the contrary, the influence of the Yamato dynasty diminished by the 6th century.
