Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research studies on the developments of Transatlantic relations at the end of the Cold War. It employs methodologies of Diplomatic History and analyzed Transatlantic relations mainly based on newly disclosed archival materials. The research consists of three research agendas: firstly, historical analysis of international negotiation on the German reunification; secondly, evaluations on the causes of intra-Western disputes at the end of the Cold War and the 1990s; thirdly, the implications of the tensions among transatlantic alliance since the end of the Cold War to the ongoing instability in Europe. The research has revealed the fact that there had been a continuous tension among the US Secretary of State and the National Security Adviser regarding US strategy towards USSR and Europe since the inauguration of the George H.W. Bush Administration; and the tension affected the courses of the transformation of the European order.
