Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purposes of this project were 1) developing an effective program for teachers and counselors to support LGBTQ+ students and evaluating its effectiveness, and 2) investigating current issues and facing problems for LGBTQ+ in Asian countries.
We developed a new program for teachers and counselors based on “LGB Sensitive and Affirmative Counselor Training Program” (Kasai & Okahashi, 2011; Kasai, 2010). First, we developed a program including Transgender and Queer (Odo & Kasai, 2017) and a program for preschool teachers (Motoki & Kasai, 2019). We also made a leaflet and handbook explaining LGBTQ+ issues and how to support students at each school. We interviewed several professionals and LGBTQ+ individuals in Korea and Taiwan asking historical background, present issues, and same-sex marriage.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

セクシュアル・マイノリティに関する研究に関しては、性的指向や性別違和に気づき始め悩み始める思春期に大半の時間を過ごす学校現場の教職員への情報提供、支援方法などは、本研究代表者が行っているもの以外、存在しなかった。そのため、教職員の LGBTQに関する啓発的訓練の方法を開発することは、教育分野において独創的で意義のあるものであった。また、日本やアジア諸国の LGBTQに関する現状・問題を国際社会に発信することは、西欧の性に対する考え方・見方をそのまま取り入れるのではなく、文化に根差した国際的な研究を発展させることが可能となった。
