Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aimed at understanding the ways in which survivors of wide-societal traumas integrate their experiences of uncertainty, irrationality and absurdity. The analysis of survivors’ narratives showed the following findings: (1) fellow survivors often are driven to do something to benefit others and community as responsible members of society, (2) by doing so, they often find ways to see themselves in the intersubjective field as organized in terms of place (home), time (history) and society (community), (3) they often experience a radical sense of homelessness as a consequence of wide-societal trauma. We suggest that for the psychoanalytic treatment of trauma survivors, sharing the sense of homelessness between a patient and a therapist often helps them to find a dialogic field for mutual healing.
