Outline of Final Research Achievements

I explored a Hegelian continuity in Dewey’s ideas. (1)I examined Dewey’s essays which showed explicitly Hegel’s enduring effects. (2)I explored Dewey’s conception regarding the role of universals and particulars and others described in his early works. My analysis shows how Dewey reconstructed Hegel’s concepts in terms of the trasastional terms as explained in his middle works. (3)I proposed a way of rereading Dewey’s idea in Hegelian as well as in evolutionary and naturalistic terms.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

デューイ思想の形成は、観念論期、実験主義期、自然主義期に区分して捉えられ、観念論期（ヘーゲル期）は後に離脱したと捉えられる。この理解に対し、本研究では、デューイの教育学説には、心理学的機能主義、道具主義的な理解へと展開された後も、ヘーゲル的、弁証法的な考え方、理論的な枠組みの残滓がみられることを明らかにした。例えば、かれに特有な方法と題材を分離しない教材概念も、その背後にヘーゲル的な思考法（題材は分解されて、事実的な要素と観念的な要素となり、展開されて方法となる）を看取することができる。こうして、一見難解なデューイ教育学説のより受容可能な理解の方法を提示できるのではないかと考えられる。
