| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Firstly, we examined challenges to put multicultural education into practice, within Japanese home economics classes, by interviewing junior high school home economics teachers.
Secondly, we observed food culture classes and interviewed teachers in British Columbia, Canada, and investigated procedures and tips for practicing multicultural education in home economics.
Thirdly, based on the findings, we developed teaching materials for junior high school home economics classes, and published a guidebook for practicing multicultural education in home economics. The guidebook shows steps, tips, class plans and worksheets, and facilitates students to learn different cultures related to foods, clothing and housing.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
国内の外国人児童生徒、日本国籍で外国につながりのある子供たちは、年々増加し続けている。そうした子供たちの日本語教育は発展してきている。しかし、多文化共生をねらいとする家庭科教育における授業研究はまだ少ない。また、多文化共生国家であるカナダの家庭科教育における多文化共生教育の研究は本研究が最初であるといえる。本研究の結果は、学術的には、家庭科教育学と多文化共生教育学に寄与するとともに、社会的には、日本における外国につながりのある子供たちと日本で生まれ育った子供たちの多文化理解と生活の向上を支援するという意義がある。
