Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は, 次世代ハードディスク(HD)用垂直磁気記録媒体の超高記録密度化のために新たな媒体材料を開発することである. 次世代HDの磁気記録密度の目標は4 Tbits/in^2であり, 垂直磁気記録媒体には現行よりもおよそ-桁高い-軸結晶磁気異方性エネルギーK_uが要求される. 本研究では実用材料であるCoPt系合金に注目し, 六方晶のc面配向合金相の原子配置に高い秩序性を持たせるため, Pt濃度の原子層毎の組成変調構造を実現する. 最終的には, 酸化物粒界を伴った2×10^7 erg/c㎥^3を超える高いK_uを持つ粒径6nm以下の磁性結晶粒の集合組織からなるグラニュラ材料を目指している.
平成29年度は, 六方晶高K_u CoPt合金薄膜のグラニュラ化に向けて課題検討を行い, 次のことがわかった. (1)CoPtRu合金薄膜において, 積層欠陥と格子定数比の組成依存性を明らかにした. (2)CoPt合金-酸化物グラニュラ薄膜における酸化物は, 低融点酸化物であるB_2O_3と高融点酸化物とを組み合わせた混合酸化物とすることで高K_u化と粒径微細化とを両立できる. これはグラニュラ薄膜成膜初期に下地層上に高融点酸化物が析出する結果, CoPt磁性結晶粒の下地層への濡れが抑制されることでもたらされる. (3)非磁性Ru合金-酸化物グラニュラ層をバッファ層として磁性層の直下に設けることにより, 磁性結晶粒間の交換結合が抑制される.
