Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Brown adipocytes are organs that produce non-tremor thermogenesis using glucose or fatty acids as energy substrates. In this study, we clarified that CXCL12-CXCR4 is one of new brown adipocyte activating factors. Mice lacking CXCR4 specifically in brown adipocytes, exacerbated glucose metabolism when given a high fat diet. In addition, addition of CXCL 12 to brown adipose-cultured cells significantly increased UCP-1 and PGC-1a which are brown adipocyte activation markers, and fat saturation-related and increased fatty acid uptake genes were observed. Based on the above, the CXCL12-CXCR4 pathway is involved in brown adipose activation and may affect glucose metabolism in vivo.
