Outline of Final Research Achievements

We constructed model cases for psychiatric nursing ethics based on narrative ethics theory, through interviewing 25 nurses about their experiences concerning ethical issues. There were various factors in their stories as follows: nurse's age and their position, violence and restraint, paternalism, patient's self -determination, nurses' anxiety and their negative emotion, ward culture, etc. These factor were weaving with each other like a mesh pattern and constituting ethical phenomena.

In developing an ethical education program based on narrative ethics theory for enhancing ethical sensitivity of psychiatric nurses, nearly all of 33 participants evaluated it useful. In addition, participants felt the enhance of their awareness for controling patients' belongings and the responsibility for patients' suicide, in overall they felt the enhance of their ethical sensitivity.
