Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, ten biotope ponds were constructed on a university campus and various microalgae and aquatic environments were created in the individual ponds. The ponds proved to be highly effective teaching materials for environmental education in liberal arts and sciences education. In their three-hour “biotope” class (one of the fourteen classes of experimental practice of biology), the first- and second-year undergraduate students carried out various experiments, observations, and analyses, and they learned a lot about natural environment and the relation between nature and microalgae. The ponds also proved to be very useful for small research group of first-year undergraduate students; through their half-year study program, the students were able to acquire highly advanced skills to perceive and analyze the change of life phenomenon in aquatic world.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
