Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Valence tautomerism (VT) is attractive property for single molecular memory devices. In this research, we observed a two dimensional periodic self-assembled monolayer of Co-VT complexes with long alkyl chains, whose cobalt center shows a thermal bistability of VT molecular interconversion in a bulk crystal. The Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) observation have demonstrated the periodic structure of Co-VT complexes on highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere. We also determined the two dimensional crystal structure of PtCl2(C8, 10bpy) (C8, 10bpy =4,4'-bis(3-octytridecyl) -2,2'bipyridine) on HOPG by STM.
