Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Here, we described the functional expression of delta rhodopsin which is a light-powered proton pump in intracellular organelle of Saccaromyces cerevisiae to develop the intracellular pH control technology. By fusing delta rhodopsin with a mitochondria-localizing protein, it was redirected to the mitochondria. This mitochondria-localized light-driven pump created a proton motive force and produced more ATP through mitochondrial ATP synthase. This study showed that we become to be able to control proton transportation activity through mitochondrial inner membrane by using light energy.
