Outline of Final Research Achievements

There are multiple types of autophagy: macroautophagy, microautophagy, chaperone-mediated autophagy, and RNautophagy/DNautophagy which we have discovered. In this study, we have found a novel pathway of autophagy, which degrades lipid droplets.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

オートファジーのタイプのなかでも、macroautophagy以外のタイプに関する研究は立ち遅れており、不明な点が多く残されている。本研究では、macroautophagyとは異なる経路として、新たに脂肪滴分解経路を見い出した。肥満を含む生活習慣病は社会的問題となっている。新たな脂肪滴分解経路の発見とその分子メカニズムの解明により、肥満などに対する新たな治療法の開発へ貢献することが期待される。
