Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we examined the effect of sialyl-lactose on memory and elucidated the mechanism in rodents.
Sialyl-lactose fed 24 months-old rats and senescence accelerated prone mice were decreased serum cholesterol level and increased brain dopamine, serotonin nerve growth factor levels. In addition, memory related behaviors were improved in sialyl-lactose fed senescence accelerated prone mice. These results suggested sialyl-lactose has the maintenance effect on memory in old age.
