Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study determined that ischemic preconditioning (IPC), which is directly applied to exercising muscle, could enhance exercise endurance during both the whole-body and local exercises. Furthermore, the preset study found that the enhanced exercise performance might due to increased skeletal muscle function, via potentially accelerating local oxygen dynamics. In addition, the present study determined that remote IPC (RIPC), which is indirectly applied to non-exercising muscle, could enhance endurance performance during whole-body exercise. However, the present study found that the enhanced exercise performance might due to increased pulmonary oxygen dynamics, but not local oxygen dynamics. Furthermore, RIPC could not enhance exercise endurance during local exercise. Therefore, the present study suggest that IPC, rather than RIPC, may be effective for long-term beneficial effect on exercise performance because of increased skeletal muscle function.
