| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research reveals how values or labels have historically been put on music genres as well as how national identity has been established in relation to each genre of music, contrasting cases in East Asia before and during World War II. It investigates the musical terminology used in newspapers, magazines, radio programs or records to clarify its contexts and meanings. In terms of conceptualization and musical performances, it also considers how each genre of music has been connected to the propaganda and restructured according to the cultural policy.

本研究の意義は、音楽ジャンルの枠組み自体の不確定性を問題とすることで、新たな視点や史料の読みの可能性を示唆した点にある。各ジャンルの本質的特徴が何であるかは語り手や社会的背景などの条件で変わってくるため、ジャンルをめぐる語りは時に矛盾するほど異なり、音楽実践にも影響を及ぼしてきた。こうした枠組みの不確定性と音楽実践との相互作用についての歴史的実証は、これまで音楽学・歴史学いずれの分野でも見られないものであり、また隣接領域のジャンル論にも寄与できる。同時に、本研究のアプローチは国や分野、時代を問わず、文化を通じたアイデンティティ形成の問題に援用可能である。
