Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focuses on the legal and financial systems related to class size. Specifically, the study was carried out by setting the three following research agendas:(1)Elucidation of legal systems to allow implementation of class size reduction; (2)Elucidation of the actual state of class size reduction fund usage; and (3)Comparison of class size reduction policies between Japan and the US. It became clear that in the US class size reduction policies, the class size is not merely reduced; instead, by promoting programs that aim to improve the academic performance of pupils, they have successfully increased the number and the quality of teachers at the same time. From a financial perspective, it became clear that the majority of the states are achieving reduced class size by allocating contingent subsidies to school districts.
