Outline of Final Research Achievements |
It was already reported that both host sponge (Spongia sp.) and sponge endosymbiotic clam (Vulsella vulsella) utilize water flow generated by their partners to save the cost to generate water flow by themselves. In this study, we conducted 3D CT reconstruction of sponge-clam colony and investigate the three-dimensional distribution of clam shells inside sponge body. The results suggests that clam shells distribute uniformly and plays important role to reinforce sponge body structure.
