Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study aimed at the invastigation of effects of short-term calorie restriction on the vocal fold lamina propria of young male rats as a basic research for anti-aging approaches toward age-related voice problems (presbyphonia). Histological and immunohistological study revealed that rats with calorie restriction showed increased hyaluronic acid and sirt1, decreased collagen type III and oxydative stress, and ameliorated vocal fold scarring in response to the vocal fold injury. RT-PCR showed that calorie restricted rats demonstrated suppressed breakdown of hyaluronic acid, suppressed collagen production, and elevated sirt1.
