表面分子化学における超高分解能原子間力顕微鏡と光技術の融合の研究

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、光技術と最先端の原子間力顕微鏡の融合を目的として遂行した。研究種目名の通り、研究代表者は前任地のスイスバーゼル大学から物質・材料研究機構へ異動した。研究開始後に、研究環境を一から構築するとともに、大型の装置である極低温超高真空原子間力顕微鏡システムを日本へ移設し立ち上げた。また、その装置に外部から光を導入するための機構を導入した。装置を立ち上げる過程で、研究室の環境の違いに起因して問題となった低周波ノイズ(特に地面や建物の振動)を除去のために除振台を設計した。さらに、安定して光を導入するために液体窒素と液体ヘリウムのラジエーションシールドを設計した。これらの改良は、それぞれ2度行った結果、安定して高分解能測定できるシステムに仕上げることができた。さらに、単分子を低温の試料台上に直接蒸着するための機構を開発した。一方で、本研究課題の申請時には着任機関が決まっていなかったため、現職地では装置を立ち上げるために必要なマンパワーが不足することが開始後に判明し計画より時間を要してしまったことを否めない。本研究分野は進展の早い領域ではあるが、申請した内容の一部は未だに世界でも達成されていない内容であるため、今後早期に実施したい。一方で、研究テーマを遂行するために、国際共同研究を積極的に行った。その結果、水素結合力の直接的な測定や、ハロゲン結合で凝集した分子膜による表面エネルギー順位の制御、ヘテロ原子の同定、新規表面化学反応の開発などに成功した。これらは当初予定していなかった成果である。また、最終年度に博士研究員を雇用し、グラフェンナノリボンの接合など今後光で励起することを前提とした新奇材料の合成に成功した。
