Outline of Final Research Achievements

Children with autism spectrum disorders participated in this study. We classified participants of autistic trait to three groups as follows. Olfactory sensitivity, Low reaction to olfactory stimuli, and Olfactory seeking. Olfactory sensitivity group are suggested to perform better to robot than human. From an interview report, sensitivity to body odour predict affinitiy to robot.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究の結果からASD児にとって体臭をはじめとしたにおい環境がコミュニケーションに重要な役割を果たすことが示唆された。ASD児へのロボット研究について、医学の分野ではASDは社会的認知の部分的な障害であると考えられており、ASD患者の観点でインタラクションの改善について探索する方法論が確立されることで、臨床応用への近道となるだけでなく、一般の社会的認知に関する研究・開発に対しても新しい実験方法論が導入され、社会性に関する新たな研究と応用を生む。その意義は大きい。
