Research Abstract |
両生類から哺乳類までの多岐にわたる脊椎動物を対象として、性染色体の起源とその進化メカニズムを明らかにし、性決定機構が不明な動物の性決定遺伝子を探索・同定することを目標に研究を実施した。その結果、爬虫類、鳥類、哺乳類がもつ性染色体は、共通祖先が持っていた異なる常染色体から分化したこと明らかにした。また、両生類と爬虫類は、同じ綱や目内でも性染色体の起源が多様であることが明らかにした。また、多種の鳥類の性染色体の構造比較によって性染色体の分化メカニズムとそのプロセスを明らかにした。また、鳥類の性腺分化に関わる新規遺伝子を複数同定し、また、Y染色体を消失したトゲネズミから、Sry遺伝子に換わる新たな性決定候補遺伝子を同定した。
