Research Abstract |
This research studies the diversity and interrelations of risks in Northeast Asia by approaching them from various aspects of International Relations, international politics, social economy, culture and history. The military security that is one of the most traditional issues in international politics manifests the competitions over hegemony at the level of nation states in Northeast Asia and of the US-Russia relations. The cross-border global issues such as environment and human migration in Northeast Asia require us to improve collaboration in this region not only on the level of nation states and on the different social levels. On the one hand, the economic collaboration in this region has been increased for the recent years. On the other hand, the gaps in social development and economic growth have also deepened in this region simultaneously. The culture and history are differently perceived in Northeast Asian societies, which prevents pertinent development of regional collaboration. The growing gaps and the absence of efficient regional networking and collaboration coping with the societal imbalance are the crucial generators of social risks in Northeast Asia. This research has further developed as the research project on social justice (category B) for 2007-2009.
