Research Abstract |
THE PROJECT IS THE FIRST WORLDWIDE TO STUDY RADIATION EFFECTS ON MATTER-IN-LIQUID PHASE PREPARED BY MEANS OF A LIQUID MOLECULAR BEAM (LMB) TECHNIQUE. AT THE FIRST STAGE OF THE RESEARCH PERIOD, VARIOUS TECHNICAL OBSTACLES INCLUDING LMB ITSELF AND RELEVANT COINCIDENCE MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN THE SUBJECTS TO BE REMOVED. AT THE PRESENT STAGE OF 2007, MOST OF THESE DIFFICULTIES HAVE BEEN SOLVED AND VARIOUS NEW EXCITING EXPERIMENTS HAVE BEEN STARTED SYSTEMATICALLY SUCH AS STOPPING POWER OF ENERGETIC HEAVY IONS AND MEASUREMENTS OF SECONDARY ELECTRONS AND IONS FROM VARIOUS JET TARGETS. PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTAL DATA OBTAINED DURING THE RESEARCH PERIOD CONCERNING ENERGY LOSS OF A 2MEV PROTON BEAM, WHICH ARE REGARDED AS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN RADIATION PHYSICS AND RADIATION CANCER THERAPY, WERE REPORTED IN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES, IN DOMESTIC SEMINARS AND SYMPOSIUMS AND IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNALS. ALSO WE CARRIED OUT OTHER CLOSELY RELATED EXPERIMENTS LIKE ELECTRON EMISSION SPECTRA FROM NINE KINDS OF AMINO ACIDS MOLECULES AND VARIOUS INELASTIC COLLISIONS BETWEEN FAST HEAVY IONS AND FULLERERENE C60 FOR WHICH MULTIPLE-IONIZATION AND MULTIFRAGMENTATION RESULTING FROM RELAXATION AFTER DEPOSITION OF HIGH AMOUNT OF INTERNAL ENERGIES HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED IN DETAIL. ALL THESE RELEVANT EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS HAVE ALSO BEEN PUBLISHED IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNALS AS LISTED BELOW. THE STOPPING POWER OF WATER AND ETHANOL ON 2 MEV PROTONS WERE EXAMINED BOTH EXPERIMENTALLY AND THEORETICALLY USING MULTIPLE-SCATTERING THEORY AND MONTE-CARLO SIMULATIONS. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE PRESENT VALUES ARE DIFFERENT BY 10 % FROM THOSE ESTIMATED FROM THE WORLDWIDE-USED SRIM CODE. TO OUR BEST KNOWLEDGE WE ARE THE FIRST TO WARN AGAINST UNCRITICAL USE OF THIS CODE IN RADIATION PHYSICS.
