Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to provide an engineering assist in design of character media. In this study, we have investigated the relation between the characteristics of colored character and the human Kansei, and we have examined the quantification method. As a result, the following have been found. 1.Relation of the human Kansei to the color and shape of colored character. The result of a questionnaire survey using colored character samples is as follows. (1)The visual feeling for the colored character is heavily dependent on the color in comparison with the shape. (2)The Kansei additivity between the color and the shape appears remarkably in the hard-soft impression. 2.Quantitative expression to the color and shape of colored character The characteristics of color are treated of the chromaticity and the lightness, and the characteristics of shape are treated of the line thickness and the sharpness of the tip of line. Then, by using the multiple regression analysis, it has been made sure that the Kansei additivity between the color and the sharpness of the tip of line exists and the color effect is dominant in the additivity. 3.Impression of practical colored characters and the quantification For the practical use of the engineering assist in design of character media, we surveyed impressions of the practical colored characters with the existing font types. As a result, the impressions fall into six basic categories which each category is expressed in a typical adjective pair. The impressions depend heavily on the color, and the impression variation with font type changes is remarkably in the two categories. In this quantification, the shape of character is expressed in binary as the font type is rounded or not. Then, we have obtained the equations to estimate the impression of colored characters.
