Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research was to investigate trainability and characteristics of muscle functions in elderly women from muscle reaction times, EMD, muscle strength and power on the lower limbs. Subjects were 48 young women aged from 18 to 30 years and 34 elderly women aged from 64 to 85 years. Elderly women were divided exercise group of 19 women and control group of 15 women. Exercise group were participated in half squat training on three times a week for one year. Measurement parameters were PMT, EMD, TRT(PMT+EMD), muscle strength(peak torque values of knee extension) and leg extension power. The results obtained were as follows ; 1.The measurement results of elderly subjects in EMD, muscle strength and leg extension power were significant lower than young subjects. 2.When elderly women divided young olds and old olds, EMD (both concentric and eccentric contraction) of old olds in exercise group was significantly shortened in comparison of pre with post. Young olds and control group didn't show significant differences. 3.EMD of old olds under eccentric contraction were longer than under concentric contraction in comparison of old olds with young women and young olds. These results were shown that elastic component of muscle-tendon complex decayed. 4.Muscle strength (both eccentric and concentric contraction) and leg extension power of old olds in exercise group significantly improved for one year. There were not significant differences in all measurement value of young olds in exercise group and control group. These results showed that half squat exercise for old olds improve EMD, muscle strength and leg extension power, and trainability was suggested.
