Regarding the title of the project, "Making Clear The Potentiality For Philosophy Of History (philosophical theory of history) In Modern Times", we came to the following conclusion : In this day and age, the "narrative theory of history" has developed a philosophical theory of history as its fundamental theory. Equally, "meta-narratology", which makes one to look at historical movements that enable the fundamental philosophical theory of history to formulate, has developed the philosophical theory of history as the "philosophical theory of globalization". In book form, "History as potential - crossing border of narrative theory" (Iwanami Shoten, Publishers) embodied the discussion on the former of the two concepts and was then used to gain insight with it's readers.
As concrete individual research results, we first investigated, in detail, into the analytical philosophy of history, hermeneutics of narratology, and fundamental documents about rhetoric of history that becomes starting point of "narrative theory of history". In addition to that we visited Professor F. R. Ankersmit (University of Groningen), exchanged opinions and received input about the latest frontier of this discussion.
Secondarily, we examined various documents about the philosophical theory of history until the first half of the 20th century. As a result we confirmed that Walter Benjamin and Martin Heidegger's thoughs are especially significant when thinking about modern problems. These results are greatly indebted to discussions with Professor A. Cesana (University of Mainz) and Professor Martin Jay (University of California, Berkeley).
