Research Abstract

Our research is focused on the methodology for compiling of the catalogue of kunten materials. Kunten Materials are the one of the most important group of materials for the research of old Japanese. However, there has been few catalogues of kunten materials which are useful and they have not been updated. So we have intended to compile the newest and completed catalogue of kunten materials. As a first step, we examined the methodology of editing catalogue of kunten materials in Heian period. The results of our research are
as follows :
1. The catalogue of kunten materials should be comprehensive and contains abundant data on kunten materials.
2. The data of kunten materials should be picked up by reading the materials directly.
3. The data which is picked up by other researchers should be examined and standardized when the catalogue is compiled.
4. In the catalogue, the feature of each material should be described in words and the value of the materials should be indicated by the number of asterisk. e. g. * * * *
