Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is : to develop CAI learning materials of intermediate level German for the students studying social sciences, especially to improve their vocabulary. First we chose a set of German words necessary for the study of social sciences, using CD-ROM, Internet etc., then we made CAI materials for the e-learning system, namely WebClass, which is now installed on the unix system in our Computer Center. In 2004 we built a corpus of necessary German words, and made a list from it with the assistance of a native German student. From this list we compiled a set of questions. Students are requested to from four Japanese words the correct meaning for a German word. We also developed a method to convert these questions efficiently to CAI materials using UNICODE. In 2005 we expanded the list of German words, and created new learning materials which contain almost 1000 German words. After that we made attempts to make the material more attractive to students, by adding photograph etc., but more consideration is required for the time being.
