Research Abstract

(1) Characteristic Evaluation and Selection of Stereolithography Material
Firstly, we selected a proper stereolithography (SL) material for our target product, inclined pin grid array (IPGA). Secondly, we made IPGAs in different conditions (irradiation and scan), and we determined optimal condition for our target IPGA. Thirdly, we determined characteristics of SL material from results of tensile test and three-point bending test using JIS type specimens made by stereolithography.
(2) Design and Manufacturing of SL plate and Parts Feeding System
We designed the shape of IPGA (size, angle, and interval of inclined pins) and created 3D-CAD models and optimal supports for SL manufacturing. From the measurement results of IPGA made by SL, we confirmed that the IPGA satisfy the required level of accuracy. We also made vibration units for the effective parts feeding.
(3) Analysis model of parts-feeding
We have developed an analysis model of the parts-feeding by the RPFS. In the analysis model, the friction coefficient between the pin and the feeding-object, sizes and material characteristics of an inclined pin, and a feeding object were considered.
(4) Performance evaluation of parts-feeding
We have developed a prototype reconfigurable parts feeding system (RPFS) that consists of IPGAs on the upper side of a large honeycomb-shaped plate and vertical exciters on the-lower side of the plate. We evaluated the influences of a parts-feeding object, inclination angle of a pin, and vibration frequency. From the experimental results, the system performance was clarified.
Finally, the research results were summarized, and the problems to be solved were listed for aiming at the practical use in the future.
