Research Abstract |
Synthesis of conjugates between organic polymer hydrogel and inorganic colloids were carried out. The inorganic colloids were produced in the network of the gel. The conjugate between acrylic acid gel and hydrated cerium oxide revealed high adsorption capacity for As(III) (30mg/g) in spite of its small specific surface area (2m^2/g). Adsorption capacity of hydrated cerium oxide for As(III) was 11mg/g Although the specific surface area of the adsorbent was 50m^2/g. The network structure of gel produces a high dispersion state of the colloid in the network due to a slight swelling of gel, resulting in a production of high contact area of the colloid. Dissolution of the colloid was not observed in the conjugate during the adsorption of arsenic. The high performance conjugate adsorbent can be prepared using the organic gel network as a reaction field. Preparation of apatite in the network of hydrogel was performed using acrylic acid/PVA gel and gelatin gel as a reaction field of the apatite. In the acrylic acid/PVA and gelatin gels, formation of the apatite on the network of the gels was observed. The polymer/ apatite conjugates were porous and mechanically strong in their dry state. The calcined products of them also showed porous structure. The relationship between the network structure of the gels and the network structure of produced inorganic materials was investigated. The effectiveness of the synthesis in the gel and the optimum synthetic condition for the preparation of inorganic network were confirmed. The method studied in this research is effective in the simple preparation of inorganic porous network materials.
