Research Abstract |
In this investigation, I have examined the regulatory mechanism of photoperiodism by deep-brain photoreceptors in fish as ayu, masu salmon and medaka fish as experimental model, The subjects examined are as follows: 1. Involvement of deep-brain photoreceptors in seasonal reproduction. 2. Molecular cloning of deep-brain photoreceptive molecules. 3. Molecular cloning of clock genes that constitute the putative photoperiodic clock. 4. Molecular cloning of a photoperiodic gene Dio2.5. Localization of the site of Dio2 expression in fish brain and the effects of photoperiodic treatment on Dio2 expression. 5. Localization of the site of Dio2 expression in fish brain and the effects of photoperiodic treatment on Dio2 expression. 6. The regulatory mechanism of a photoperiodic hormone melatonin. 7. Search for photoperiodic genes in fish by cDNA subtraction and microarray strategy.
