Research Abstract |
In this study we investigated the molecular mechanisms of muscle fiber type switching, especially slow to fast fiber switching. Using reporter plasmids for slow or fast fiber specific genes, we screened the cis-element for muscle fiber type specific gene expression. For example, the myoglobin gene promoter region must contain the slow fiber specific cis-element(s), whereas the myosin heavy chain 2A gene promoter could contain the fast fiber specific cis-element. We conducted these experiments several times and found the several cis-elements muscle fiber type specific gene expression.
