| Research Abstract |
Electronic textbook is useful for the education of the special radiologist. We developed the card-type database of the images of the various diseases. We have queried and imported the key images from the PACS (picture archiving communication system) in the Department of Radiology, Yamaguchi University Hospital. We developed the card-type database of the teaching file in the FileMakerPro. Diagnosis, comments, teaching points with key images were added in the FileMakerPro. Radiologist can search the cases by query of each organ, each modality, and difficulty level and study effectively.
We designed a web-based radiology-teaching library system that can collect imaging cases widely via the Internet and enables submitters and reviewers to do collaborative work in registering teaching cases without temporal or spatial restriction. However, in the near feature, our radiology-teaching library will be available to the members of the JRS, and the candidates for the board examination will study the cases in the library before taking the board examination. Now, the language employed is Japanese, because the use primarily is for education and examination of radiologists in Japan. However, we are planning to open our radiology-teaching library to the world by translating it into English. In Europe, the EURORAD (htt://www.eurorad.or/) project has been collecting imaging cases widely from all over the world. This system has a strict format. It enables radiologists to search contents immediately and effectively. However, it is difficult to submit cases for radiologists who do not have sufficient computer knowledge. Our radiology-teaching library is readily available to radiologists who do not have sufficient computer knowledge. Inputting of items is simple, so that submitters can easily submit imaging cases. The reviewers are also able to check submitted cases easily. The number of our collecting eases is approaching that of the EURORAD.
