Research Abstract

The etiology of the recurrent miscarriage has not been fully elucidated, and the relationship between the genotype of enzymes for detoxication and recurrent miscarrage has recently been noted. Thus, the genotypes of enzymes for detoxication, such as cytchrome P450 (CYPIAI), glutathione-S-transferase-pai (GST-pai), GST-my, GST-theta, were analyzed in patients with infertility, who had experienced recurrent miscarriages by means of polymerase-chain reaction- restrication fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. The patients were sent out the questionnaires concernig history of smoking, or alchol intake. So far, 44 patients were enrolled into the study, and 30 normal fertile women, who had never experienced abortions, were also enrolled into this study.
The frequency of each genotype of the enzymes was compared between the patient population and control group. The significant difference was not observed concerning CYPIAI, glutathione-S-transferase-pai (GST-pai), GST my. However, the frequency of la genotype of GST-pai was signinficantly higher in patients group compared with control population. In order to obtain definite conclusion, further investigation is considered to be mandatory, increasing the number of the patients and control population
