Research Abstract

Chronic inflammation plays an important part in the pathomechanisms of nasal polyps and chronic rhinosinusitis and aspirin induced nasal polyps. However, the precuse mechanisms is not well defined. Eosinophils, mast cells and T cells are increased in the nasal polyps and are important inflammatory cells and their roles in nasal polyps have been discuassed.
Previously, we reported that gamma delta T cells are increased in the nasal mucosa of patients with allergic rhinitis. We also reported that they are an important source of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and IFN-gamma. In the present study, we investigated the roles of gamma delta T cells in nasal polyps by the folwibng experiments.
Gamma-delta T cells expressed TLR-2 and TLR-4 (Immunohistochemstry and FACS). Gamma-delta T cells expressed CD80, CD86, CD28, CD40L, HML-1. Mite antigen stimulated nasal polyp gamma-delta T released RANTES, IL-4 ,IL-13 (ELISA). Upon stimulatio with LPS also there was production of RANTES from gamma delta T cells. Since we previously reported that gama delta T cells can also ngage in antigen presentation based on these results and earlier results gamma delta T can be considered to play an important role in the genesis and development of nadal polyps including eosinophil inflammation.
