Research Abstract

We measured the relation ship between experimental occlusal interference and function of the autonomic nervous system.
The lower 1^<st> molar was selected as the interfering tooth and a 30 μ m-thick premature contact plate made of 12% Au-Pd alloy was placed. The experimental condition was unrestrained daily life under the experiment. ECG was monitored for 24h by holter-type data recorder and analyzed the frequency of the R-R interval on electrocardiogram using the maximum entropy method with MemCalc (Suwa-trust Co.), and calculated the integrated power values based on the obtained power spectrum for the respective components in the low frequency bands(LF:0.04-0.15Hz) and high frequency bands(HF:0.15-0.40Hz). The ratio of LF to HF (LF/HF) was used as an index of sympathetic nervous system and HF was parasympathetic nervous system.
All participants gave informed consent, and all procedures were approved by the Ethics Committee of Osaka Dental University. (No.040630)
During undisturbed daytime, statistical significance was not existed in autonomic nervous activity, between occlusal interference condition and control condition.
During sleep, statistical significance was existed. In the occlusal interference condition, HF was decreased to 749.5 fron 1313.2 ( in control ), and LF/HF was increased from 1.6 to 2.8.
