Research Abstract

It is famous that patients with Down's syndrome have a high risk of periodontal disease from an early age, but little is known about the genetic factors that may cause or exacerbate of this disease. A purpose of this study is to detect involving genes by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analyzing. The subjects were 28 Japanese with Down's syndrome. Informed consent and oral screening were completed. Their DNAs were isolated from lingual mucosal cells and examined with the frequency of specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) by PCR-RFLP method. The SNPs on which we focused were of the pro-inflammatory cytokine genes Interleukin (IL)-1A(-889) and IL-1B(+3953), and of the Toll-like receptor genes (TLR)2(Arg677Trp) and TLR4(Asp299Gly). As the result, in the place to the present, it wasn't possible to have found a significant difference in these SNPs and beta Integrins (posted as a paper). We continue to examine and analyze other cytokines, peptides and alexin-related molecules.
