Research Abstract |
The parents who have the children with severe congenital heart disease are often spending days under the uneasiness situations like follows. Such as, without the enough information about their children's disease, they sometimes have to face the surgical procedures of their children. Even after the successful procedure, the children need long time follow period and the parents need to care them with daily stresses mentally and physically. Thus, we subjected 40 parents whose children were diagnosed as having severe congenital heart disease and undertaken surgical operation and followed up at Okayama University Hospital. We interviewed them and analyzed their experience, attitude and the acceptance of the situations. Conflict of feeling, mutual support and hope, action for adjustments, warp of communication, aggressive grapple and change of physical image were the key words for the acceptance of the situation. We next interviewed the fathers about their experience, feeling, attitude and the needs of family support, and analyzed. Many of the eathers were worrying and needed to be cared about their income to support medical fee, time conflict of working and the family life, furthermore less medical information about their children and finally, the uneasiness for the future. Not only the medical team and co-workers, but the whole society needs to recognize and understanding the situation and do some actions.
