Research Abstract

本研究では、固体表面上の金属ナノ構造体について、その電気伝導を測定する新しい実験技術を開発する。通常金属の電気伝導は、ボルツマン方程式を通じて、金属のフェルミ面のずれに対応している。この考え方は長年周知であったが、そのフェルミ面の様子を直接観測されたことはない。そこで、本研究では超高分解能電子分析器を用いた光電子フェルミ面マッピング法により、電場印加中のこのフェルミ面の"ずれ"を世界で初めて直接測定し、系の電子輸送現象の研究を行う。そしてこの結果を元に新しい電気伝導測定法を確立する。
本研究では上記の印加電場として高強度マイクロ波を使用し、昨年度までに超高真空下での電場印加システムの開発を完了した。そしてHe励起光源とSMA端子フランジを用いてCu(111)表面の電場印加中フェルミ面のマッピング測定を行ってきたが、励起光サテライトの影響で"ずれ"の観測には至らなかった。そこで本年度はレーザー光源と導波菅フランジを用いたマイクロ波照射下の光電子分光測定を試みた。本実験に必要なレーザー、高分解能電子分析器、サンプルクライオスタットが広島大学放射光センターに揃っていたので、同センターと共同で研究を行うことにした。5回に渡る広島大学での実験出張を経て、同センター職員と共同でレーザー光電子分光測定装置を立ち上げた。そして分解能評価のためのAu蒸着膜サンプルについて、電場印加に伴うフェルミ端形状の変化を90Kで調べたが、明確な差は観測されなかった。今後は単結晶表面を同システム内に用意し、実際のフェルミ面の変化をより低温での光電子分光測定で詳細に調べてみる。
