Research Abstract

本年度はまず、アメリカにおける天文全領域に亘る観測装置についての国際会議(SPIE Conference)において、本研究で開発中の近赤外高分散分光器WINEREDのコンセプトと開発の現状を詳細を発表し、可視光と近赤外線の間にあるニッチ波長域を開拓する新しい装置として高い評価を受けた。
同会議で数多くの技術的議論を行ったが、中でも米国ローレンスリバモア研究所で赤外線高分散分光素子(イマージョングレーティング)の切削技術による最先端の研究を進めているグループから,WINEREDのイマージョングレーティング製作のオファーを貰い、共同研究として製作をすすめることとなった。本年度は、最初のステップとして実際に用いる材質(セレン化亜鉛:ZnSe)の平行平面基板上に回折格子パターンを切削により作製し、表面形状やピッチ誤差の測定を進めた結果、所定の仕様を満たしていることがわかった。今後はこの成果をもとに、回折格子を実際のプリズム上につくり、最終的なイマージョングレーティングを製作する。また、短波長の近赤外線観測をするにあたって重要となる熱カットフィルターの検討をすすめ、試作品を作製し、カットオフ波長(1.35μm)以上の長波長域で目標に近い10万分の1の熱吸収性能を得た。ただし、まだカットオフのシャープさが目標とする仕様に達していないため、さらなる開発が必要である。
機械系については、前年度に製作を終えたレンズ等の光学部品のマウントや分散素子の回転機構等の設計・製作をすすめた。電気系では、汎用の近赤外線読み出しシステムの改良をすすめ、MUX(試験用の検出器)の画像取得に成功した。現在はノイズパフォーマンスのチューニングをすすめている。
本研究の予備研究となる観測的研究をすばる望遠鏡の近赤外線装置IRCSを用いてすすめ、とくに、赤外線波長を生かして、高赤方偏移(z>2.5)のマグネシウム吸収線の個数密度分布について初めて明らかにした。この吸収線は、銀河形成に密接に関係する低イオン化ガスのプローブとして知られているが、本研究で製作中の高分散分光器により、このような重要な吸収線を速度成分毎に分解することにより、一つ一つの銀河間雲の元素組成など高赤方偏移における本質的な物理情報を得ることができる。
